This journal “Of Plimoth Plantation” was written by Pilgrim Governor William Bradford – check the Massachusetts Records, here, here, and here
The Massachusetts State House stores the hand-written journal of Mayflower Captain and Pilgrim Governor William Bradford where he narrates the first years of the Pilgrim colony at Plymouth. The Pilgrims sailed from England on the Mayflower and arrived in Massachusetts in 1620 where Bradford served as the colony’s first governor. Bradford wrote an account of the settlement from 1620 to 1646, titling it “Of Plimoth Plantation.”

The hand-written journal describes the voyage of The Mayflower and the Pilgrims’ experience settling in Plymouth
Originally titled “The Log of the Mayflower” contains an account as narrated by Mayflower Captain William Bradford who was one of the Company of Englishmen who left England in April 1620 in the ship known as “The Mayflower.” He also narrates the circumstances leading to their prior Settlement in Holland, their return to England and subsequent departure for New England, their landing at Cape Cod in December 1620, their Settlement at New Plymouth and their later history for several years.

This record is an invaluable source for the early history of Massachusetts and the United States.
The manuscript contains a copy of the Mayflower Compact (the original copy, written on board of the Mayflower, no longer exists), a list of passengers who sailed on the vessel. (p19)
PILGRIMS’ WRITINGS – Thanksgiving to God
THE FIRST THANKSGIVING AT PLYMOUTH – to honor God for His deliverance and providence.
As narrated by the Pilgrim, Captain and Governor William Bradford in his manuscript “Of Plymoth Plantation”
(originally titled “The Log of the Mayflower”)

PILGRIMS GAVE THANKS TO GOD
● The grateful Pilgrims therefore declared a three-day feast in December 1621 to thank God and to celebrate with their Indian friends.
● It is primarily from the Pilgrim’s Thanksgiving celebration of 1621 that we derive the current tradition of Thanksgiving Day.

"Of Plimoth Plantation" By Pilgrim William Bradford

Modern transcription:

And thus, they found the Lord to be with them in all their ways, and to bless their outgoings & incomings, for which let his holy name have the praise for ever, to all posterity.

They began now to gather in the small harvest they had, and to fit up their houses and dwellings against winter, being all well recovered in health and strength and had all things in good plenty. For as some were thus employed in affairs abroad, others were exercised in fishing, about cod and bass and other fish, of which they took good store, of which every family had their portion. All the summer there was no want; and now began to come in store of fowl, as winter approached, of which this place did abound when they came first (but afterward decreased by degrees). And besides waterfowl there was great store of wild turkeys, of which they took many, besides venison, etc. Besides, they had about a peck of meal a week to a person, or now since harvest, Indian corn to that proportion. Which made many afterwards write so largely of their plenty here to their friends in England, which were not feigned but true reports.”

“MOURT’S RELATION” written by Pilgrim Governor Edward Winslow, 1621
(Mourt was Governor of the Pilgrims several times)
e-book: Mourt’s Relation or Journal of the Plantation at Plymouth (PDF)

"Mourt's Relation" by Pilgrim Edward Winslow

Modern transcription:
our harvest being gotten in, our governor sent four men on fowling, that so we might after a special manner rejoice together, after we had gathered the fruits of our labors; they four in one day killed as much fowl, as with a little help beside, served the Company almost a week, at which time amongst other Recreations, we exercised our Arms, many of the Indians coming amongst us, and amongst the rest their greatest king Massasoit, with some ninety men, whom for three days we entertained and feasted, and they went out and killed five Deer, which they brought to the Plantation and bestowed on our Governor, and upon the Captain and others. And although it be not always so plentiful, as it was at this time with us, yet by the goodness of God, we are so far from want, that we often wish you partakers of our plenty.

This journal Mourt’s Relation was:
- Written primarily by Pilgrims and Mayflower passengers: Edward Winslow, William Bradford.
- Written between November 1620 and November 1621.
- Describes the landing of the Pilgrims at Cape Cod, their exploring and eventual settling at Plymouth, their building of the Colony, their relations with the surrounding Indians, including the First Thanksgiving.
- Originally printed in 1622 under the tile A Relation or Journal of the English Plantation settled at Plymouth, is the first published account of the coming of the Pilgrims to the New World to settle Plymouth Plantation.

PILGRIMS & CAPITALISM
PILGRIMS FIND SUCCESS IN CAPITALISM

(as written by the Pilgrim’s second Governor, William Bradford)

Pilgrims corn production increased when each family was assigned a parcel
● For the Pilgrims, life was a constant battle for survival. Later, Governor William Bradford made a decision. Instead of the colonists sharing their crops equally, he assigned a parcel of land to each family and told them they could keep whatever they produced for themselves.
● ‘This had very good success, for it made all hands industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been.’ If you can keep everything you make, of course you’re going to work harder…more

Pilgrims embrace Capitalism
(from the journal of Pilgrim William Bradford)

Modern transcription:
All this while no supply was heard of, neither knew they when they might expect any. So they began to think how they might raise as much corn as they could, and obtain a better crop than they had done, that they might not still thus languish in misery. At length, after much debate of things, the Governor (with the advice of the chiefest amongst them) gave way that they should set corn every man for his own particular, and in that regard trust to themselves; in all other things to go on in the general way as before. And so assigned to every family a parcel of land, according to the proportion of their number, for that end, only for present use (but made no division for inheritance) and ranged all boys and youth under some family. This had very good success, for it made all hands very industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been by any means the Governor or any other could use, and saved him a great deal of trouble, and gave far better content. The women now went willingly into the field, and took their little ones with them to set corn; which before would allege weakness and inability; whom to have compelled would have been thought great tyranny and oppression.

MORE LEFTIST PROHIBITIONS: Los Angeles County bans plastic bags

Posted by FactReal on November 17, 2010

CALIFORNIA COMBATING THE ENEMY…THE PLASTIC BAG
At a time of economic uncertainty and high budget deficits, Los Angeles leftists have decided to impose new prohibition on its citizens and businesses. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted on November 16, 2010 to prohibit supermarkets and pharmacies in unincorporated county areas from giving out plastic shopping bags to customers.  The ordinance will also require stores to charge 10 cents per paper bag.

The excuse for this prohibition: To “encourage” shoppers to use reusable shopping bags to “save” the planet. But this demonization of the plastic bag is based on flawed science.

Townhall reported:

Parts of Los Angeles County have joined other California communities in banning stores from using single-use plastic bags.

County supervisors approved the measure 3-1 on Tuesday in hopes of preventing billions of bags from polluting neighborhoods and waterways. It bans stores from giving customers single-use plastic bags and would require them to charge 10 cents for each paper bag.

The ordinance, which goes into effect next year, would apply to unincorporated parts of the county where an estimated 1.1 million people live. It does not include the 88 cities within the county, such as the city of Los Angeles, which is apparently looking at the county’s findings to craft its own proposed ban. [...]

“This is just the beginning of a wave of bans against single-use plastic bags across California,” [Assemblywoman Julia Brownley, D-Santa Monica] said.

THE PROHIBITION
Read the ordinance: Plastic Bag Prohibition (PDF).

OPPONENTS OF THE BAN:
County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, the only one who voted against the ban, said mom-and-pop stores will be negatively impacted because they would not be able to buy large volume of paper and reusable bags. Antonovich also indicated that poor people will incur additional costs because they will have to buy bags for their lunch, for trash, etc.

“At a time of economic uncertainty, with a large number of businesses leaving our state and community, this would not be an appropriate time…to impose this additional regulation,” Antonovich said.

Velma W. Union, pastor at The Lord’s Church in southwest Los Angeles, said the supervisors seemed more concerned about saving the environment than people. “Opponents who spoke at the meeting urged supervisors to vote against the ban, saying it would cause residents to lose much-needed jobs and that the fees for reusable and paper bags would be an unfair burden on residents in poorer neighborhoods.”

SUPPORTERS OF THE BAN:

Bag Monster (a.k.a. Andy Keller) happy
with the decision to ban plastic bags.
He will benefit financially.

-

Andy Keller (a.k.a. Bag Monster), president of ChicoBag, joined environmental groups to push for government bag bans.

But Keller doesn’t do it for altruistic reasons. According to Bloomberg, Keller stands to make huge profit by selling his reusable bags: “Despite lacking experience in manufacturing or distributing consumer products, Keller, a former software sales rep, launched a business to follow his hunch…By April 2005, he had patented the bag’s design, hired a Chinese manufacturer, and persuaded local retailers to carry his product. As sales picked up, he borrowed about $100,000 from his family, mostly to increase production.

His bet paid off. Last year, 30-person ChicoBag, in Chico, Calif., brought in $5.3 million in revenue, Keller says, and sales are up 14 percent year-over-year. As communities around the country consider banning single-use bags, he hopes that growth rate will hold steady in 2011. Today, some 3,500 retailers, including Whole Foods and outdoor gear retailer REI, carry ChicoBag products.”

FACTS: FLAWED SCIENCE BEHIND DEMONIZATION OF THE PLASTIC BAG
The Times of London unmasked the flaws behind the plastic bag bans:

[S]cientists, politicians and marine experts attacked the Government for joining a “bandwagon” based on poor science.

Lord Taverne, the chairman of Sense about Science, said: “The Government is irresponsible to jump on a bandwagon that has no base in scientific evidence. This is one of many examples where you get bad science leading to bad decisions which are counter-productive. Attacking plastic bags makes people feel good but it doesn’t achieve anything.”

Campaigners say that plastic bags pollute coastlines and waterways, killing or injuring birds and livestock on land and, in the oceans, destroying vast numbers of seabirds, seals, turtles and whales. However, The Times has established that there is no scientific evidence to show that the bags pose any direct threat to marine mammals.

They “don’t figure” in the majority of cases where animals die from marine debris, said David Laist, the author of a seminal 1997 study on the subject. Most deaths were caused when creatures became caught up in waste produce. “Plastic bags don’t figure in entanglement,” he said. “The main culprits are fishing gear, ropes, lines and strapping bands. Most mammals are too big to get caught up in a plastic bag.”

He added: “The impact of bags on whales, dolphins, porpoises and seals ranges from nil for most species to very minor for perhaps a few species. For birds, plastic bags are not a problem either.”

The central claim of campaigners is that the bags kill more than 100,000 marine mammals and one million seabirds every year. However, this figure is based on a misinterpretation of a 1987 Canadian study in Newfoundland, which found that, between 1981 and 1984, more than 100,000 marine mammals, including birds, were killed by discarded nets. The Canadian study did not mention plastic bags.

Fifteen years later in 2002, when the Australian Government commissioned a report into the effects of plastic bags, its authors misquoted the Newfoundland study, mistakenly attributing the deaths to “plastic bags”.

The figure was latched on to by conservationists as proof that the bags were killers. For four years the “typo” remained uncorrected. It was only in 2006 that the authors altered the report, replacing “plastic bags” with “plastic debris”. But they admitted: “The actual numbers of animals killed annually by plastic bag litter is nearly impossible to determine.”

In a postscript to the correction they admitted that the original Canadian study had referred to fishing tackle, not plastic debris, as the threat to the marine environment.

Regardless, the erroneous claim has become the keystone of a widening campaign to demonise plastic bags.

DREAM Act: Why Vote Against this Illegal Alien Student Bailout

Posted by FactReal on November 17, 2010

Facts about the Democrats’ DREAM Act:

1) The illegal alien student bailout will NOT be limited to “children” — but, in fact, would put illegal aliens in their 30s and 40s on a “path to citizenship.” Taxpayers “would also be on the hook for all federal benefits the DREAM Act seeks to offer illegal aliens, including student loans and grants.

2) The DREAM Act provides safe harbor for any alien, including criminals, from being removed or deported if they simply submit an application.

3) Certain criminal aliens, including gang members, deportation fugitives, and those who have committed voter fraud or marriage fraud, would be eligible for DREAM Act amnesty.

4) An estimated 2.1 million illegal aliens will be eligible for DREAM Act amnesty.

5) Illegal aliens would be eligible for in-state tuition benefits under Section 3.

6) The DREAM Act does not require that amnesty beneficiaries actually finish any type of degree as a condition for “path to citizenship” benefits.

Tell your senators to vote NO.

VETERANS DAY: Thank you for keeping us free, veterans!

Posted by FactReal on November 11, 2010

Remarks by President Ronald Reagan at the Veterans Day National Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on November 11, 1985:

“We celebrate Veterans Day on the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I, the armistice that began on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. And I wonder, in fact, if all Americans’ prayers aren’t the same as those I mentioned a moment ago. The timing of this holiday is quite deliberate in terms of historical fact but somehow it always seems quite fitting to me that this day comes deep in autumn when the colors are muted and the days seem to invite contemplation.”

“It is, in a way, an odd thing to honor those who died in defense of our country, in defense of us, in wars far away. The imagination plays a trick. We see these soldiers in our mind as old and wise. We see them as something like the Founding Fathers, grave and gray haired. But most of them were boys when they died, and they gave up two lives — the one they were living and the one they would have lived. When they died, they gave up their chance to be husbands and fathers and grandfathers. They gave up their chance to be revered old men. They gave up everything for our country, for us. And all we can do is remember.”

“[T]he surest way to keep a peace going is to stay strong. Weakness, after all, is a temptation — it tempts the pugnacious to assert themselves — but strength is a declaration that cannot be misunderstood. Strength is a condition that declares actions have consequences. Strength is a prudent warning to the belligerent that aggression need not go unanswered.

Peace fails when we forget what we stand for. It fails when we forget that our Republic is based on firm principles, principles that have real meaning, that with them, we are the last, best hope of man on Earth; without them, we’re little more than the crust of a continent. Peace also fails when we forget to bring to the bargaining table God’s first intellectual gift to man: common sense. Common sense gives us a realistic knowledge of human beings and how they think, how they live in the world, what motivates them. Common sense tells us that man has magic in him, but also clay. Common sense can tell the difference between right and wrong.”

LEFTIST LAMONT HILL: NJ Gov. Christie too fat to be President; smells like bacon (video)

Posted by FactReal on November 10, 2010

The Rise of Fattism in the Obama-Era

fattism: discrimination on the basis of weight, esp. prejudice against those considered to be overweight.

The latest example of fattism comes from leftist radical and Columbia professor Marc Lamont Hill, PhD, who has been very busy this week bullying New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on national TV.

On Monday, Lamont Hill said Gov. Christie is too fat to be president: “He can’t win, let’s be honest…He’s fat.”

“He’s fat for a politician. He doesn’t have the body type to win. There are other issues – look at that,” Lamont Hill said as he looked at an image of Christie.

“He’s playing the circuit perfectly. Now, if he could just run the circuit a little bit and trim some of that off, he’ll be just fine.”

Yesterday on the O’Reilly show, Lamont Hill redoubled his discriminatory diatribe against Gov. Christie: “No one wants a president who smells like bacon after he runs up the steps.”
[Transcript here]

“We wouldn’t have elected him in a wheelchair now, would we?”

“[I]t is still a demerit to be overweight.”

Demerit? So, this Columbia professor thinks that a person with extra pounds deserves censure or a mark for “misconduct or deficiency.”

Not surprise here: Liberals are great at spewing their hate. Bullies enjoy targeting the obese…especially during the Obama administration which has demonstrated more visceral disdain towards obese people than to those who want to destroy our nations. The Obama administration is not only encouraging but financing the targeting of obese people:

- Michelle Obama Obesity Order: Cut butter, cream, French fries (video, photos)
- Miami-Dade to get rid of obese people
- Miami to use $14.7 million to put residents on a diet
