Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina Defended Seijas Against the 2006 Recall (Miami-Dade Mayoral Candidate)

Posted by FactReal on May 31, 2011

THE ROBAINA OF 2006
In 2006, then-Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina sided with then-Commissioner Natacha Seijas against those trying to remove her from office. Robaina was the main supporter in Seijas’ successful defeat of that year’s recall effort.

He was able round up support for Seijas from other politicians.

Miami-Dade Police Benevolent Association (PBA) union president John Rivera, another long-time Seijas’ ally, came to the defense of Commissioner Seijas.

Below is PDF of the letter from Robaina and allies defending Natacha Seijas against the 2006 recall:

During the press conference held today in the City of Hialeah, Mayor Julio Robaina, Yioset Cross and Wayne Slaton, mayors of the cities of Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens and Town of Miami Lakes respectively, explained to the attendees, elected officials and residents of District 13 Miami-Dade County, their support of Commissioner Natacha Seijas.

Attached is letter in support of Natacha Seijas.

###

February 6, 2006

Dear Residents of District 13,

We write this letter in Support of Commissioner Natasha Seijas’ courageous leadership in the County Commission of Miami-Dade and to offer our full support as she continues to serve the residents of District 13 and those of Miami-Dade County.  In particular, we would like to commend Comm. Seijas for her service and commitment to the county since 1993.

Furthermore, we urge you to take a stand and join us in supporting Comm. Seijas against the recent “Citizens Recall” which has been initiated in retaliation as a personal vendetta.  This “Citizens Recall” is not only a waste of taxpayer money, but it is being used as an intimidation tool and for personal political advancement.  We condemn this blatant disrespect of taxpayers and residents.  Comm. Seijas has lead many efforts to improve the quality of life and services provided to residents throughout the County.  She has always demonstrated her ability to be a forthright representative of her community before the County.

Please join us in support of Comm. Seijas and in a fight to end the deviance of some “community members who wish to tarnish the image of one of the greatest leaders the County Commission has seen, who has fought for Elderly and women’s rights, while trying to help families throughout the county, and to improve the lives of not only her district, but all of Miami-Dade County.  WE HAVE COMPLETE FAITH IN THE INTEGRITY AND COMPETENCY OF COMM. SEIJAS.

Did Mayor Julio Robaina Crush Dissent in Hialeah?

Posted by FactReal on May 26, 2011

UNANIMOUS VOTES – AN EXERCISE IN DICTATORSHIP
(Hat tip: RightPoints)
Hialeah ordinances got unanimously approved or rejected by the council members while Julio Robaina was Hialeah mayor. Robaina’s record indicates that he learned very well from his mentor, leftist Raul Martinez, to govern the City of Hialeah with an iron grip. Martinez used his power to pulverize with impunity those who challenged him.

Under the Robaina administration, council members voted, for the most part, unanimously 7-0 to approve or reject proposed resolutions. When one council member was absent, the score was 6-0.

This group-submission happened not only with routine resolutions, but also with crucial ones. E.g., items 5 and 6 on the 2008 agenda (listed below) amended Hialeah’s charter to legalize slot machines (maquinitas). This 2008 ordinance was aggressively championed by Robaina and led to the proliferation of gambling machines in Hialeah.

Example: City Council Summary Agenda – April 22, 2008 shows no dissent among council members:

PRODUCTS MADE FROM OIL

Posted by FactReal on May 25, 2011

PETROLEUM PRODUCTS MAKE OUR LIFE EASIER
Environmentalists want us to stop using oil, even though petroleum products make our life easier — to fuel airplanes and cars, to heat our homes, and to make products like medicines and plastics.

Besides fuel oil and gasoline, there are many other products that derive from petroleum: asphalt, paraffin wax, lubricating oils, engine coolant, polyesters, vinyl acetate, isopropyl alcohol, acrylic fiber, lubricants, adhesives, corrosion control chemicals, cosmetics, flavorings, fragrances, food additives, inks, printing supplies, packaging, bottles, paint, resins, cleaning agents, pharmaceuticals, etc.

What is the environmentalists’ idea to replace all these petroleum products?

USAGE OF SOME PETRO PRODUCTS:
• Liquids used in paints and printing inks
• Oil and greases used to keep car engines and other machines running smoothly
• Waxes used in making candles, packages, matches, polishes, crayons, and candy
• Petroleum jelly used in medical products, skin-care products, and make-up
• Asphalt used for paving roads, and materials for roofing and flooring
• Synthetic rubber used in hoses

Carlos GIMENEZ: LIBERAL VOTES, DONORS, RECORD (Links to his votes) (2011 Miami-Dade Mayoral Candidate)

Posted by FactReal on May 23, 2011

Updated by FactReal on June 28, 2011
A CONSERVATIVE?
So, you think Gimenez is a conservative because he has adopted the Tea-Party parlance, i.e., lower taxes, term limits, power to the voters, etc. But his record shows he has sponsored many liberal legislations, i.e., prohibiting Trans Fats in restaurants, furthering environmentalist-controlling measures, conditioning commissioners’ 8-year term with salary increase, etc.

Gimenez also voted against SB1070 Arizona law and urged Obama to pass an immigration reform (a.k.a. Amnesty for illegals). He also voted against offshore oil drilling, even though Cuba plans to drill for oil less than 75 miles off the Florida Keys and deeper than BP’s Deepwater Horizon well. Either Gimenez was pandering to leftists or he doesn’t understand how these liberal policies hurt the county and the nation. Would a true conservative do that?

SHORT BIOGRAPHY
A quick view of this candidate’s experience, position on issues, legislations, votes, campaign finance, etc.

CARLOS GIMENEZ
● Was Miami-Dade County commissioner for District 7 from November 2, 2004 through April 12, 2011 when he resigned to run for county mayor.
● Was City of Miami manager from May 2000 to January 2003.
● Spent 25 years with City of Miami Dept. of Fire-Rescue: Started as firefighter at the age of 20. Was Miami’s fire chief the last nine years at the dept. (1991 – 2000)
● Completed his Bachelor’s Degree in public administration in 1999 at Barry University – Miami.

NEW:Carlos Gimenez Endorsed by Muslims, Gays, and Leftists
NEW:Carlos Gimenez Voted for SLOT MACHINES Contracts
NEW:Carlos GIMENEZ Voted for Red Light Traffic Cameras
NEW:Carlos Gimenez Wanted More Powers for Commissioners
NEW:Carlos Gimenez Oversaw the Failed Transit System

$5 Million Pension
NEW:Will receive a $5 MILLION PENSION Paid by Taxpayers
Gimenez receives $126,810-a-year government pension paid mostly by taxpayers for the rest of his life. If he gets that pension for 40 years, he will receive $5,072,400. Gimenez will receive an additional lifetime pension for his work as County commissioner.

Pro-Homosexual Agenda
Advanced the gay agenda
- Co-sponsored and passed a 2008 ordinance to benefit homosexuals
- Advocated against the 2008 Florida Marriage Protection Amendment (a.k.a. Amendment 2) to define marriage between one man and one woman
- Received the endorsement from the gay organization, SAVE Dade, on June 2, 2011
- Received SAVE Dade‘s Champions of Equality Award in 2009
- Was more than happy to attended a gay event organized by SAVE Dade
- Is donor/member of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Foundation5
- Seen by gays as someone who will advance their agenda

According to SAVE Dade, the homosexual-activist group, Carlos Gimenez supports:
• A trans-inclusive Human Rights Ordinance;
• Ensuring and expanding the rights of Domestic Partners;
• Instituting a County-wide LGBT advisory board; and
• Keeping adoption legal for parents who are gay and lesbian.

Photos and details here.

Oversaw Failed Transit Projects (i.e., half-penny sales tax for new transit lines)
● Was assigned vice-chair of the Commissioners’ Regional Transportation Committee, which oversees the county’s transportation system — the same transportation system that was going to be modernized by the 2002 half-cent sales tax. Yes, the infamous half-penny sales tax that they were going to use to supposedly build new miles of bus service and 90-miles of new Metrorail extensions like the elusive East-West and North Corridors. (The East-West Corridor, the Metrorail extension that would run from the Miami International Airport to the FIU campus on 8 SW Street; and the North Corridor that would run north up to the Broward County line.) As of October 2010, they had collected almost $1.4 billion in transit surtax, but most was spent on bloated salaries, excessive staff and maintenance of existing operations. The county and the cities have misspent these tax dollars.

Pro-Union
Endorsed by union

VOTES
Proposed or co-sponsored legislations:

A Conservative?
Although Gimenez and the local media want to convince Miamians that Gimenez is conservative, his record shows a different picture. Would a conservative sponsor these leftist proposals:

Raise Commissioners’ Salaries
(Commissioners already get $55,388 in benefits + perks + $1 million budget, etc.)
On 3/25/2011 commissioners Heyman and Bell sponsored the latest amendment for the May 24 ballot to raise commissioners’ salary, but Gimenez has been proposing this raise in the past:
To raise commissioners’ salaries (PDF) in 10/29/2010 – but it was withdrawn 11 days later.
To raise commissioners’ salaries, 7/18/2008
To raise commissioners’ salary (PDF), 11/6/2007

More Power to the Commissioners
To return to the commission the powers previously transferred to the Mayor (PDF), 5/10/2010

Red-Light Cameras at Intersections
To install Red Light Cameras (PDF), 10/7/2009
To install Red Light Cameras (PDF), 6/24/2008
To use Red Light Cameras at intersections (PDF), 9/25/2007
To install cameras at intersections (PDF), 11/2/2006

Limit Amendment #2 – Right to bear arms
To impose an assault weapons ban (PDF), 9/17/2007

Telling People What Not to Eat
To prohibit county from using Trans Fat (PDF), 2/28/2007
To ban Trans Fats in restaurants (PDF), 2/16/2007

More Taxes
To eliminate loop hole preventing property transfers to be taxed (PDF), 2/6/2007

Global Warming
(There is plenty of info demonstrating that Global Warming is a hoax, Gimenez still insisted in furthering this manipulative and failed agenda)
To join the Chicago Climate Exchange to reduce greenhouse gas (PDF), 2/5/2007
To seek grants for ethanol fleet vehicles to encourage demand for alternative fuels (PDF), 2/1/2007
To give tax exemption for solar energy (PDF), 1/2/2007
To create Climate Change Advisory Task Force, 4/13/2006
To support development of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, 3/30/2006

Gambling
To call for special election to authorize slot machines, 1/24/2005

Voted to support these resolutions:
Against Oil Independence
Voted against offshore oil drilling

Pro-Illegal Immigration
Voted for Amnesty for illegals and against SB1070 Arizona law

Supported Michelle Obama’s intrusive “Health” Program
Voted for Michelle’s Obama intrusive campaign with the misleading title “Communities Putting Prevention to Work” to supposedly combat obesity (that is, to tell us what to eat, drink, buy…), 10/5/2010 (Votes)
This sound very altruistic, but don’t be fooled. Politicians are infringing on our private lives and on our parental rights ever so more: School officials ban lunches from home…and confiscate snacks, Boston Mayor bans soda, NY State won’t allow kids to play kickball but gives them condoms, Michelle Obama tells restaurants to cut the butter…and hide the French fries, etc.

Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive…those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. — C.S. Lewis

Here is the Truth behind Michelle Obama’s Obesity Campaign — it’s a power grab masquerading as a public health crusade.

Hialeah Mayor Julio ROBAINA: LIBERAL RECORD, DONORS, VIDEOS (2011 Miami-Dade Mayoral Candidate)

Julio A. Robaina
● Former Mayor of the City of Hialeah

A CONSERVATIVE?
So, you think Robaina is a conservative because he has adopted the Tea-Party parlance, i.e., lower taxes, term limits, power to the voters, etc. But his record prove he is anything but not a conservative – not even a fiscally conservative.

Click the links below for more details. We provide links to primary sources, when possible, so you can verify the information for yourself.

ROBAINA USED OBAMA’S STIMULUS & GOVT. PORK
This is the reason Robaina can claim he has not raised taxes in Hialeah – he has been using other people’s money to finance his pet projects.

- Uses Obama’s “stimulus” money to finance projects (Just like Charlie Crist)
- Admits using Obama’s so-called stimulus to finance Hialeah projects
- Buys votes with taxpayer money

ROBAINA – AN ENVIRONMENTALIST
Robaina believes in global warming and pushes the “green” agenda in Hialeah

- Indoctrinating kids with environmental fallacies
- Pushing “green” environmental agenda
- Giving showerheads away to “save the planet”

- Video: Robaina Indoctrinating our Kids with the “Green” Agenda

No rational person wants to destroy their own habitat, but it is wrong when politicians use government muscle to impose on Americans their apocalyptic beliefs in the theory of “man-made global warming” which relies on questionable science.

They want kids to hate oil. Did they teach the kids that to be truly “green” they will have to get rid of all these petroleum-based products?

Could McDonad’s go into schools with the trojan horse lofty goal to eradicate world hunger and tell the kids to buy only products with the McDonald’s logo or seal of approval?

ROBAINA’S WRONG DECISIONS
He supported the Marlins Stadium deal that taxpayers will have to pay for generations

On March 23, 2009, Robaina went in front of the Miami-Dade commission to express his support for the stadium. The commissioners’ minutes of that meeting indicate: “Mayor Julio Robaina, City of Hialeah, noted he supported this proposed resolution. He pointed out the City of Hialeah had voted in straw ballots since 1999 in favor of the Marlins staying in the County. He noted the Marlins and Major League Baseball had committed to dedicated funding sources for the baseball academy in Hialeah to serve the youth of South Florida.”

ROBAINA’S IRON GRIP?
He crushed dissent and opposing views
Hialeah ordinances got unanimously approved or rejected by the council members while Julio Robaina was Hialeah mayor. Robaina’s record indicates that he learned very well from his mentor, leftist Raul Martinez, to govern the City of Hialeah with an iron grip. Martinez used his power to pulverize with impunity those who challenged him.

Under the Robaina administration, council members voted, for the most part, unanimously 7-0 to approve or reject proposed resolutions. When one council member was absent, the score was 6-0.

Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina’s Contributions from Illegal Gaming (Links to records) (Miami-Dade Mayoral Candidate)

Posted by FactReal on May 22, 2011

There have been many news reports about the cozy relationship between Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina and the industry of video gaming machines (a.k.a. slot machines, maquinitas). These machines, which many consider gambling, have proliferated in Hialeah under Robaina’s administration.

Public records indicate persons linked to illegal gambling and other shady businesses have donated to Building a Brighter Future, a political action committee (PAC) created by Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina. They have also contributed to PACs formed by Robaina’s friends.

Tomas Cabrerizo 2
“NEW YORK — Tomas Cabrerizo, the chief executive officer of a Miami-based sourcing company called Trends Clothing, was among 25 people arrested by law enforcement authorities last Thursday in what they described as a major organized-crime bust.

Cabrerizo was charged with federal counts of racketeering conspiracy and illegal gambling, according to papers filed with the U.S. District Court in Miami by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida.

Authorities also charged Jose Miguel Battle Sr., whom they described as the head of Miami’s Cuban Mafia, and his son, Jose Miguel Battle Jr. The elder Battle was arrested in a grocery store, while his son was taken from a cruise ship, according to reports in The Miami Herald. The 25 defendants were charged with running what the U.S. Attorney’s office, in a statement, called “The Corporation,” an organized-crime ring that conducted gambling operations known as bolita, trafficked in illegal drugs, stole and resold merchandise and backed up its operations through violence and intimidation.

“The indictment alleges that the corporation laundered these illicit profits through various ‘puppet’ companies in the Miami area and through the development of a casino in Lima, Peru,” the statement said.”
