News reports (August 31, 2022)

Most of day today, people analyzed the photo included in yesterday’s DOJ filing.

Fox News: Trump slams DOJ’s filing opposing ‘special master,’ allegation he tried to ‘obstruct’ probe: ‘I Declassified!’:
[Note: Trump did not slam the DOJ. Trump just posted his answer on TruthSocial. See below.]

In the 40-page response filed Tuesday, the Justice Department opposed the appointment of a special master to review documents seized from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, saying he “lacks standing” because the records in question belong to the United States, not him. In addition, the DOJ’s filing said documents were likely “concealed and removed from the Storage Room and that efforts were likely taken to obstruct the government’s investigation.

Mark Levin Responded to DOJ Photo of Trump’s “Classified Docs”:
– “The former president and his staff are free to look through the boxes, or even move them if the former president seeks access to them, so when you say they may have been moved, what are you claiming? That they were moved for the purpose of concealing them from you? How so?”
– “If the subpoena you sought and received allowed you to review and remove documents, the idea that one or more lawyers prevents you for doing that is crazy.”
– “Were the lawyers armed, were they threatening to wrestle you to the ground, or what?”
– “How could they possibly prevent you from reviewing or removing documents if you had a lawful subpoena? It doesn’t make sense.”
– “You also state that a lawyer represented that you had all classified information. The implication you are trying to create is that you were lied to. So, let me get this straight…”
– “A licensed lawyer would put his freedom, career, and law license on the line by intentionally lying to the FBI about classified documents knowing full well that the FBI would eventually find him out?
– “The federal government tracks its classified documents or is supposed to. This entire matter is utterly preposterous. And more so as time goes on.”

– Fox News also reported that Trump responded “in a flurry of Truth Social posts Wednesday morning.”
[Note: “In a flurry” of posts? Fox News seems to ignore that on Truth Social (like on Twitter) you are limited to 2-3 sentences per posts. So your answers can take several posts/tweets and it is not that you are crazy/angry typing in a “flurry of Truth Social posts.”]

Trump answered on his platform TruthSocial.com:

Terrible the way the FBI, during the Raid of Maar-a-Lago, threw documents haphazardly all over the floor (perhaps pretending it was me that did it!), and then started taking pictures of them for the public to see. Thought they wanted them kept Secret? Lucky I Declassified!

Trump also posted:

Whatever happened to NUCLEAR, a word that was leaked early on by the FBI/DOJ to the Fake News Media!

Byron York also reacted to the DOJ photo:
– “The layout of the photo does not conform with other descriptions of how the documents were kept — ‘intermixed’ and ‘commingled’ with magazines, photos, print-outs, letters, and other stuff. 4/11”
– “Surely the FBI took photos of the documents as they were found in the container. But what about the photo that was released? How did that come to be taken? ”
– “But the Mar-a-Lago photo–what NYT calls a ‘striking visual aid’–appears to be neither of those. It is not a photo of the classified documents as they were initially discovered by the FBI. Nor is it a display at a DOJ facility.”
– “Did the FBI remove the documents from the container, spread them out on the floor at Mar-a-Lago, and take the photo? OK. But in selecting the photo to be made public — wouldn’t it have been more informative to see the documents as they were actually kept?
