Border Crisis Reason: ALL Dem. Senators Voted for An Open Border Activist to be Border Protection Chief

Posted by FactReal on October 16, 2022

TWO REASONS WHY WE HAVE A BORDER CRISIS: CHRIS MAGNUS & THE DEMOCRATS
Chris Magnus, before becoming Biden’s Customs and Border Protections (CBP) chief, was well known for being: an open border and sanctuary cities advocate, border crisis denier, BLM supporter, and controversial former police chief.
– That sounded fantastic to Joe Biden, so in April 2022, he nominated Magnus to lead the CBP, the agency in charge of protecting our borders!

– ALL Democrat Senators* and one RINO also thought it was a great idea and voted to confirm Chris Magnus.

– Border crisis: Under Biden, 2.2 million illegal aliens who have entered the U.S. interior.

Magnus participated in protests with Black Lives Matter (BLM), the Marxist rioters:

WHO IS CHRIS MAGNUS, BIDEN’S CBP CHIEF?
Sources: Media reports.
Note: () = Date of the media report.
Magnus’s radical positions: (Report of Oct. 18, 2021)

– Defended sanctuary laws (even after the murder of Kate Steinle, who was shot by a seven-time felon, five-time deported illegal alien.)
– Fiercely defended sanctuary policies that shield criminal illegal aliens from arrest and deportation when he was police chief in Richmond (California) and Tuckso (Arizona)
– Praised and participated in protests with Black Lives Matter (BLM)
– Ordered his officers to ignore ICE detainers on criminal illegal aliens
– Told interpreters that they were “never” allowed to contact ICE or CBP to verify a suspect’s immigration status.
– Criticized ICE for enforcing federal immigration law
– Blasted President Trump’s administration for increasing interior immigration enforcement.
Magnus attacked Trump’s administration in December 2017 for restricting federal funds from sanctuary jurisdictions.

Magnus refused calling Biden’s immigration border crisis a crisis during his confirmation hearing:

Magnus cautioned local officials against ending sanctuary city policies after Kate Steinle murder in 2015: (Oct. 18, 2021)

President Joe Biden’s pick to serve as commissioner of U.S. Customs And Border Protection (CBP) previously discouraged local officials in California from ending sanctuary city policies in the wake of Kate Steinle’s murder, according to emails obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
[…]

In the emails, which were obtained via a records request by the Immigration Reform Law Institute, dated July 28, 2015, Magnus shared an op-ed [by former Chief Bill Lansdowne] published in the Sacramento Bee titled, “Keep clear, separate roles for local law enforcement and ICE.”

…Lansdowne argued in the op-ed.. “In my four decades in uniform and 20 years as police chief, I saw again and again politicians’ temptation to respond to a singular, heart-wrenching incident with sweeping policy change. In my experience, this always does more harm than good.”

Magnus celebrated Pride Month at DHS as illegal immigration hits record high: (June 1, 2022)

During the flag-raising ceremony with DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Magnus, the agency’s first openly gay leader, said he shared some of his “personal experiences” and his “commitment to continue to make CBP a welcoming agency for members of the LGBTQ+ community.”

[…]

The celebration comes after illegal migrant encounters at the Southern Border hit a record high of more than 234,000 in April. May data has not been released, but the number of encounters are expected to climb still further.

Magnus wrote an op-ed in 2017 for The New York Times to attack then-President Trump’s immigration policies: (Dec. 6, 2017)

Magnus controversial remarks: (Dec. 7, 2021)

The now CBP head stood against the Trump administration’s fight against sanctuary cities, writing in a 2017 New York Times op-ed that Tucson is not a sanctuary city but takes “pride in being welcoming to immigrants.”

“Justice Department grants and other federal support funded through our taxes should not be tied to immigration policies,” he wrote.

During his committee hearing on Tuesday, Magnus described the images that conjured false claims of Border Patrol agents whipping migrants as “troubling.”

Magnus’ legal troubles: (Dec. 7, 2021)

The new CBP head also made headlines when it was revealed he settled a sexual harassment and retaliation case against a former member of his protective detail. The case was settled in 2017 out of court for an undisclosed amount and was described by Magnus as “entirely bogus.”

Additionally, claims surfaced that Magnus made racist jokes while at work and discriminated against Black officers.

Another lawsuit, which covered claims going back to 2006 and 2007 and was eventually rejected in 2012 by a jury, could prove to be an issue for Chris Magnus at a time when Democrats and even some Biden administration officials have been seeking to drum up accusations of racism against Border Patrol – which CBP oversees.

CBP UNDER MAGNUS:
Border Patrol opens gate locked by Texas National Guard to allow illegal immigrants to enter: (Aug. 17, 2022)

Border Patrol agents on Wednesday opened a gate that had previously been locked by members of the Texas National Guard, in order to allow a number of illegal immigrants deeper into the United States.
[…]

The incident demonstrates the stark contrast in approach between Texas authorities and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Under Gov. Greg Abbott, Texas has surged law enforcement to the border under Operation Lone Star. That included a focus on stopping migrants from entering the U.S. with Texas now returning recently-entered illegal immigrants to the border, and its own border wall construction under way.

Border Patrol agents, meanwhile, have been increasingly made to focus on processing migrants into the interior, with migrants frequently not seeking to escape Border Patrol — instead seeking them out so they can be processed and quickly released into the U.S.

Republicans have taken aim at the Biden administration for restoring “catch-and-release” policies, including in ending the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” policy, which kept migrants in Mexico rather than releasing them into the U.S.

Fentanyl seizures at southern border jumped over 200% in July: (Aug. 16, 2022)

Over 2,100lbs of the drug, which can be fatal in small doses, were seized in July. That’s the highest amount seized in at least the last four fiscal years. […]

The synthetic opioid is typically used for treating severe pain and is 50-100 times more potent than morphine. Illicit fentanyl is now primarily made in Mexico from precursors manufactured in China, and then trafficked across the southern land border.

[…]

So far in FY 2022, more than 5,000 lbs have been seized by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agencies in those two counties — amounting to 60% of the 8,425 lbs that have been seized across the country. Seizures have increased in San Diego by 323% in just three years and by 272% in Imperial County.
[…]

Republicans, meanwhile, have linked the fentanyl surge to the ongoing border crisis, which they say has been enflamed by the Biden administration’s ending of Trump-era enforcement policies.

Morale at the CBP is down, but CBP will investigate a tweet (Sept. 14, 2022)

There has been significant dissent within CBP, specifically among Border Patrol agents, about the Biden administration’s tackling of the crisis at the southern border. While multiple Biden officials — including Vice President Kamala Harris — have claimed the border is “secure,” agents have fumed about the state of border security.

The administration has focused its response to the border crisis, which has seen more than two million encounters this fiscal year alone, on targeting “root causes” like poverty, violence and corruption in Central America. It has also touted increased DHS funding, regional cooperation and anti-smuggling operations.

But critics have pointed to reduced interior enforcements, broader catch-and-release, the stopping of border wall construction and the end of policies that kept migrants out of the U.S. as drivers of the unprecedented migrant surge. […]

Morale is likely only to have worsened after an investigation into false allegations that Border Patrol agents whipped Haitian migrants confirmed that those claims (which were echoed by President Biden) did not happen. However, the investigation still recommended punishments for the agents based on other alleged offenses.
